Assessment 2012

Students taking ITGS as an examinable subject:

• Project due February 10
• January mock exams: Modified Paper 1 and 2 only (not HL Paper 3)
• April Mock exams: Full Paper 1, 2, 3
• Final DP exams as scheduled by the IB

Students not taking ITGS as a full DP subject:

• Project will be worth 50%, not 30% as in SL, and can be submitted at the end of April
• Other assessment includes:
  • January testing - 10%
  • May testing - 20%
  • Area of Impact essay - 1500 words, based on a scenario and including current news articles - 20%, due April 13
• January and May testing:
  • Paper 1 but without the extended answer '10 mark' in-depth questions
  • The testing in May will not be cumulative. Some parts of the syllabus covered in January, others covered in May
  • For MAY testing: Business and Employment, Home and Leisure, Education and Training

Paper 1 structure:

HL (2 hours 15 min)

• 4 questions to be answered:
  • Section A x 2 questions (from a possible 3) from SL/HL core topics
  • Section B x 1 question (from a possible 2) based on topic 3.10 "IT Systems in organisations"
  • Section C x 1 question (from a possible 2) based on topic 3.11, "Robotics, artificial intelligence and expert systems"

SL (1 hour 45 min)

• Three questions to be answered (from a possible 5) on any of the SL/HL core topics
• Note: non-IB students will answer 4 questions from a possible 6

Paper 2 structure:

HL and SL (1 hour 15 min)

• Paper 2 is based on an unseen news item where students respond to 4 criteria:
  • A - presentation of the issue
  • B - IT background of the issue
  • C - The impacts of the issue
  • D - A solution to problems arising from the issue
• Response according to Paper 2 guidelines
• Note: Non-IB students will be asked to write (c) or (d) only
